What Is Dyce Quirk?

Dyce Quirk is channel and business all about helping you experience Japan. We accomplish this by providing both informative and understandabale about Japanese culture, travel, language and more. We make short and long video content on our Youtube channel, write articles for this website, and have made a specialized book for helping you plan your trip to Japan.

Who are we?

The Business

As a business Dyce Quirk really got started in Septemeber of 2020. Since then we've been working multiple jobs and this has been a side project we've been working on. Since starting this channel we've moved to Miyagi, Japan's Kami Machi, made over 200 videos and written a book for helping people visit to Japan.

The People

For the time being Dyce Quirk is made up of myself, Dyce Quirk (aka: Tim Fordyce), and my wife. We are both Christians who moved to Japan from the American Midwest and we both have a heart for the people of Japan. We've been married since 2016 and love cats (although at the moment our still stuck in the US T.T ... ). I have a Master's degree in "Strategic Ministry" with a double major in "Preaching and Church leadership", and "Bible and Theology". My wife is incredibly skilled in woodworking and has electrical experience along with a wealth of knowledge about bugs and plants. We also both love adventures and exploration!

At first we moved to Japan through JET, I was accepted in 2019 but had to leave because of Covid 19. Then while in JET I was selected to be JET ALT Prefectural Advisor (PA) for Miyagi. ( At the time being I am still working at schools in Miyagi but will adopt this position in July or August).

We also are fortunate enough to have a group of people who help in various ways from writing articles, to helping with some tech stuff on our site. Thank you all so much for all your help everyone!

What are our values?

As indiviaduals my wife and I are Christians and so Dyce Quirk is built out of Christian values. In addition, while there are more values that we hold to, these are the five primary values we want to continue to grow within this business:

  1. Truth
At Dyce Quirk we want to provide you with the most accurate information possible. We believe if we continue to work hard to provide you with correct information we continue to invest in you as a person. Trust is afterall a cornerstone in building connections. We also believe that transparency is a part of Truth and so we want to be transparent with you about any information we share and also transparent about our personal oppinions on products, locations, etc.

  2. Generosity
We want to be generous with our resources. We've been blessed tremendously with the gifts we've been given in our lives. We've been blessed with our friends and families, to all of you who bless us with your time, to the greatest gift we ever recieved in Christ. Out of all of this generosity we've recieved we want to share that generositty as well.

  3. Connection
A big part of what we hope to accomplish with this business are connections. We believe we are all made in God's image and Christ invites each and every person to be a part of His family. In this business we want to build relationships with people, and help others connect as well.

  4. Growth
Part of being a follower of Christ involves growing and seeking everyday. No one is perfect, but we're called to strive to be better. At Dyce Quirk, everyday we want to continue growing ourselves. We want to growing in knowledge, character, and ability everyday. We'll never be perfect, and it may be a slow process, but we believe in continual growth.

  5. Compassion
Christ showed the world great compassion in how He lived, and the sacrifice He made. We are called to be like Christ. The world seems to be particularly lacking of compassion these days, and without compassion we cannot hope to accomplish any of our goals. Truth is often hid behind anger and pride. Generosity is lost when we can't give with an loving heart. connections can't be made without genuine compassion for the other person. Personal growth and knowledge is empty when it lacks compassion. So while we strive to spread truth, be generous, connect with others, and grow daily, we will strive to live with compassion in us and show it whenever we have an opportunity.

What are our Goals?

We have 3 goals here at Dyce Quirk:

1. We want to equip our audience with the information and confidence they need to go and experience their dreams in Japan.

Some people may want to just visit Japan, but see it as a difficult task to plan or as something that's simply a dream. Other's may want to try working in Japan someday, but they don't feel they have enough knowledge or confidence to take steps toward that goal. Still, some others may just want to learn more about Japan purely out of interest, but don't know where to start.

2. We want to help connect people around the world.

One thing I noticed when I first came to Japan was just how different people experience the world we live in. Our culture really does influence a lot of how we think, and our way of thinking truly influences how we experience our lives. In addition, this difference in experience and thinking can lead to misunderstandings in communication. Through our informative videos we hope to help people better understand eachother through the culture here in Japan. We want to expedite people's initial learning curve so they can begin to connect faster, and this really links to our third goal.

3. We want to help spread the Gospel of Christ in Japan through equipping believers.

I've always had a heart for Japan, and I've always wanted to share the hope I have through Christ with the people here. Japan as a country has some interesting history with Christianity, but the Japanese population of Japan still remains at less than 3% being followers of Christ. On this channel, I hope to expedite believers' understanding of the culture and language in whatever ways I can so connections can be made and our faith can be shared. I hope to expand on this goal more in the future, but for the time being as we continue to refine our vision and goals for this business, this is our goal.
